Parent. Advocate. Partner to families and educators across Hayward.
Candidate for HUSD School Board
Biography
Joann is an educational advocate and community leader dedicated to strengthening partnerships between families, schools, and the broader community. As Parent Ambassador Lead and former PTA President, she has empowered families to engage in their children's education and school decision-making.
She has served as Chair of the School Site Council at both the elementary and middle school levels. She currently serves on the Hayward Unified School District Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee and participates in HUSD's SPEDAA Affinity Group, advocating for transparency, equity, and improved outcomes for all students.
Committed to lifelong learning, Joann is currently completing prerequisite coursework at Chabot College as she prepares to continue her education in psychology. She is passionate about creating inclusive educational environments where every student and family has the opportunity to thrive.
Joann brings a practitioner's understanding of how policy decisions ripple through classrooms, families, and neighborhoods. That experience is what drives her commitment to open, honest governance on the HUSD school board.
I welcome outreach from community members, families, organizations, and partners. Whether you want to share ideas, ask questions, or explore ways to collaborate, feel free to reach out directly.
[email protected]Leadership Philosophy
Every policy decision and budget choice should be evaluated through one lens: what is best for students. I believe this requires discipline, real data, and consistent accountability.
Families deserve to understand how decisions are made and why. I am committed to clear communication, accessible information, and honest reporting on district outcomes.
Strong schools are built through partnership between the board, educators, and the families they serve. I believe in building trust through consistent, respectful engagement.
Public funds are a public trust. I will approach every budget decision with care and a commitment to directing resources where they have the greatest impact on students.
Community Roots
Before running for school board, I spent years showing up at school events, community forums, and neighborhood conversations. I believe the best leaders listen first. My campaign is built on that same foundation: real conversations with real people about what Hayward's students need most.
